Summer in the Hi Desert - always a little COOLER than Palm Springs ... and the Creativity Never Stops!
A look through the past few pages of this site should tell you that the desert may appear to doze in the summer heat...but close attention will tell you that the quiet can be deceiving. Lots of activity! Beautiful summer nights, great for stargazing, concerts and music and art activities! At the entrance of one of the wonders of the world, the Joshua Tree National Park. Summer youth theater productions are wonderful at the Hi Desert Cultural Center, home to the JT Philharmonic and Hi Desert Playhouse, and Theatre 29. The Joshua Tree Astronomy Arts Theater has a few surprisings event such as "The Madness of a Titan" presented by Dr. Catherine Svelha, cultural mythologist and storyteller. A few galleries remain open. JTHAR - Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency is hosting emerging artists from around the world and will hold an opening of their work at JTAG on July 9th. A summer evening at the Twentynine Palms Inn, dinner by the pool (with veges from organic garden onsite-yes in the desert!) is always delicious and inviting! Pappy and Harriet's "Pioneertown Palace" provides great music/libations/food-- and the higher elevation brings cooler temps. The Hi Desert and Joshua Tree area: definitely worth a visit. And you may want to return!

writer, artist, observer, social commentator. I arrived to the Hi Desert 3 decades ago - to enter my chosen field. At the time, I saw the vast horizon as the end of the world. Now, I see it as the beginning of creativity.
